Did I somehow miss the memo? (CM Punk v. Chris Brown Beef)

Now for those that knows me…will know that I am a huge pro wrestling fan…and to dig deeper than that, I am a fan of CM Punk’s…but what I’m about to rant on here isn’t to show my allegiance to Punk or my complete lack of respect for Chris Brown…it’s to pose this question (hopefully one that will get a conversation going on here) to everyone on here:

WHEN DID IT BECOME SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE TO BEAT WOMEN?

The reason why I ask this is due to the response I’ve been seeing in the wake of this complete PR disaster between Punk and Brown. People, or should I say “#TEAMBREEZY”, are coming to the defense of Brown and trying to somehow justify his actions against Rhianna. Punk was recently a guest on HOT 97’s morning show and took on a few callers who came to the defense of Brown (CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO). I was in shock to what I was hearing…it was people coming to defense of a male who physically assaulted a female. Saying that “Oh, well you wasn’t in the car with Chris and Rhianna that night” insinuating that it was possibly Rhianna’s fault for starting it…to me, that argument is the biggest piece of shit out there…whether she irked him to the point for a beating or even placed her hands on him…does not under any circumstances give any male a reason to attack (or in these fans cases, retaliate) a defenseless woman. We all saw the pictures of her face after the attack…need a reminder? (CLICK HERE FOR PHOTO). He obviously struck her repeatedly, to the point where she needed to go to the hospital. However we are here now in 2012 awarding this offender on the biggest night in music…like all is forgotten. Now don’t get me wrong, I am a firm believer of second chances (lord knows I’ve asked for a fair share in my more younger mischievous days)…but only when you have given your time and effort to earn one. Chris was served a 5 year probation with community service sentence…to me that’s a slap on the wrist. By the way Chris has been acting since the incident…do you think he’s been a humbled man that learned from his mistakes…FUCK NO. He went on GMA and acted even more like a child but storming off their set, he goes on Twitter saying outlandish stuff…like the whole “this Grammy is for the haters” and what not…Chris Brown, has haters because he repeatedly struck a defenseless woman …he’s not overcoming the odds like an underdog…so he has no right to be on this “fuck the haters” tip. Years ago, a popular country group, The Dixie Chicks, were black listed because of their statements to then president George W. Bush, ruined their careers in my opinion…Now you have a guy who’s a convicted female assaulter getting two performances on the Grammy’s and a bunch of airtime like all is good. I find it disgusting.

Now with this whole Punk v Brown mess in the public eye…it unveiled the sad sad fact that there are people out there who is willing to defend Brown against Punk. I read a lot of, “Who is CM Punk anyways” or “He’s just trying to get popular off of Chris success” and all this other bullshit…while all the while people are missing the point of why Punk called out Chris in the first place…CHRIS BROWN ASSAULTED A FEMALE. Point fucking blank…if you’re a male, you don’t hit females. I’ve come form a home where my “father” choked out my mom when I was young…and I swear, if that happened and I was older, I’d have blood on my hands. So that’s not me and will never be me. It still boggles the mind of how many people are really out there trying to justify Chris’s actions. It’s disheartening really. Oh, and I know that since the whole assault, Rhianna has come to terms with Chris and has even done work with him…she’s a fucking idiot for that and sends out the wrong message to young girls out there…but regardless of Rhiannas actions now…it doesn’t justify the beating she received in the past.

I’ve rambled on about this way too long and surprisingly, I have much more to say…but I think I’ll leave it to what’s been written. What do you guys think…When did it become socially acceptable to beat women…or is Chris defense just because he’s popular and can sing and dance?
